Current Pursuit: Project #1
A dance and stories.
In April 2011, Kat Howard wrote to Megan and said something along the lines of, “What if we…?”
And so we did. Or, we are in the process of doing so. Project #1 is a collaboration of dance and writing, an adventure in telling stories in a different kind of way. Originally an exploration of myths about journeys to the land of the dead, the piece has slowly turned into something more personal and possibly quirkier.
Kat is writing pieces of text in Long Island. We are making a dance in San Francisco, jumping off from Kat’s words and into the studio. Our dancers (the fiercely brilliant Carson Stein, Sarah Lyman, Kelvin Vu, and Josianne Fleming) are dancing, of course, but also collecting their own words and ideas to feed into the dance.
Project #1 is being supported by the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. It will premiere in July 2012 in San Francisco.
